OopDoo-Because going to preschool can be scary

August 30th, 2008 by Elizabeth

oopdooWhen I received an (oopdoo)â„¢ hug wrap for a product review, the first thing I thought of, before I had even looked at the product website, was how perfect it would be to send along with a child going to preschool. The (oopdoo)â„¢ is a piece of the softest fleece, shaped like a giant bandaid. It has a pocket in the inside middle that could hold a cold pack or one of those microwavable rice pillows, and it wraps around the child’s shoulders or arm, or leg, wherever the “boo boo” is.

What made me think of preschool is I remember when my boys went, and they would collide with another kid and get a bump, and want a bandaid even though they weren’t bleeding. There’s something about bandaids that makes kids feel comforted. Well, being able to wrap a soft fleece “bandaid” around the bumped arm or leg is sure to feel comforting too, it’s like combining the bandaid with their favorite soft blanket! My daughter has been carrying her (oopdoo)â„¢ around this week because her brothers are up North at a friend’s grandparents’ house, so she’s been a little sad.

The (oopdoo)â„¢ comes in a variety of prints, colors, and textures, and costs between $19.99 and $24.99 plus a flat rate of $5.95 for US shipping. Call 1-877-608-5631 to get info on having one shipped outside the US. It would make a great get-well gift, too!

Canada does not use the potential of Apple iPhone 3G

August 30th, 2008 by Phones Review

Over in Canada, after all the moans and groans about the Apple iPhone 3G rate plans and high costs, it seems that those same Canadians just aren’t bothered about using the Apple iPhone 3G to its full potential but preferring to use it mostly as a voice call machine.

According to Rogers Wireless on Thursday, 1.2 percent of Canadian iPhone 3G users devoured more than one gig of data in the first four weeks after the iPhone 3G went libe on July 11th.

One gig of data equates to roughly downloading a movie or 240 songs to the iPhone 3G.

Rogers say that 95 percent of their Apple iPhone 3G customers use less than 500MB of data which equates to about 110 songs, while 91 percent use 200MB.

Spokeswoman Liz Hamilton said: “They’re learning how it can be used. The folks who were first to buy, those are the early adopters, those are the tech savvy ones and what it says is that big data buckets actually let you do a lot of stuff.”

Hands-on: Point of View GeForce 9500 GT Graphics Card

August 30th, 2008 by Daniel

This is the Point of View GeForce 9500 GT graphics card and its been given a hands on review by Tweak Town. In their final thoughts they had this to say “It wasn’t looking good for Point of View when the sample arrived, but the bottom line is pulling the card out of the box and seeing that HDMI port brought a whole new perspective to the card.

The native HDMI port really gives us the ability to use the card in a HTPC. And the fact that it runs cooler than the Leadtek option while also being 10dBs quieter makes it an excellent choice for people.

Performance really isn’t there; it’s a little bit faster than the Leadtek option for the most part, but nothing to get excited about. The inclusion of the HDMI port also makes it a little easier to accept the cost of the card when compared to the 9600 GSO.

Sure it’s not a speed demon, but it was never going to be. Point of View have made sure the card offers a bit more value for money, making it stand out from the competition. There isn’t a whole lot more you could ask for when you look for a graphics card under the $100 mark.

While I would still personally recommend spending the extra money on a 9600 GSO or 9600 GT so that you could really do a bit of serious gaming, the bottom line is if you’re looking for something that’s cheap and is just going to put a good picture on your TV, then the POV 9500 GT is a hard card to pass up”.

Qualcomm ignores Broadcom injunction so judge fines

August 30th, 2008 by Phones Review

Oh dear, looks like Qualcomm has been a bad boy! Last year Qualcomm was banned from selling various 3G chips which infringed on Broadcom patents if you recall.

Well apparently Qualcomm obviously didn’t see the ban as an actual ban because they continued right on selling, actually they continued right up to the point where a judge decided Qualcomm were in contempt for violation the injunction.

The resulting decision means Qualcomm has been ordered to fork over gross profits from the sales of their QChat push-to-talk to Broadcom…ouch!

The court gave Qualcomm 30 days grace to work out just how much they own Broadcom; Sprint forked over $93 million to use the technology since last December.

So one can assume quite safely that this little episode is going to cost Qualcomm more than a few peanuts. However, Qualcomm is planning on staging an appeal, so this could be yet another long drawn out battle.

China to go the AT&T way with iPhone 3G?

August 30th, 2008 by Phones Review

After negotiations it appears that China Mobile and Apple have decided to rely on the price subsidisation system to bring the Apple iPhone 3G to the people of China according to an insider at China Mobile.

Apple and China Mobile are now close to finalising talks that should avoid passing on relatively high costs of the iPhone 3G to Chinese consumers by using the same type of system adopted by AT&T.

This new plan agreement is intended to replace the revenue sharing system which came to a stalemate during earlier talks between Apple and China Mobile.

So it looks as if the Apple iPhone 3G will soon be on its way to the Chinese market, and then maybe some of these iPhone rip-offs we have been seeing will eventually fade into history; that is until the next hyped mobile phone hits the net waves.

What does the Motorola Z10 Flexi-phone have to offer?

August 30th, 2008 by Phones Review

The Motorola Z10, billed as a “pocket-sized mobile studio,” that sports an innovative design which bends when opened, simple hardware that breaks on purpose!

The Z10 from Motorola is a 4 ounce platinum trimmed that sports a stylish bendy design, but in reality doesn’t actually offer the user a great deal else.

One would have thought if someone like Motorola is going to come up with a flashy design, they would at least put in a few tempting features to make the phone every more desirable, but no.

What does the Motorola Z10 have to offer? Well, a 5 megapixel camera with intuitive editing suite, 2.2 inch screen which isn’t ideal for viewing videos really, Symbian UIQ, lowly 1GB microsSD.

Had Motorola actually spent a quarter of the time on making the software features for the Z10 as innovative as this break-away hardware then maybe the Motorola Z10 could have been quite a wow factor. Unfortunately they didn’t, and at $500.00, the Z10 doesn’t really come up to scratch.
